Upcycling with Embroidery (Thursdays 6-8pm)
4-Part Workshop
DATES: 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13
Class Description:
During this workshop, students will explore basic embroidery stitches, mending techniques, how to source images/draw designs for embroidering on clothing, how to apply designs onto fabric, and more. Embroidery can be a powerful tool to make your clothes last, and make your clothing truly one-of-a-kind.
During a several week workshop, students can begin by strengthening embroidery and mending skills overall, then eventually move onto personal projects that they can bring to class and get individualized instruction/help on.
During a 2 hour workshop over the span of four weeks, students will be asked to bring in a garment they’d like to either mend or add embroidery to. During the class, they will receive some instruction and background information on how to apply these embroidery techniques. Time will be allocated to working on their own projects, and each student will be set up for continuing their projects after the workshop if it isn't finished by the end.
Teacher Info:
Zoe Grubbs is a Philadelphia-based sewist, embroiderer and textile artist originally from Pittsburgh, PA. Dedicated to sustainable creative practices, she creates apparel and accessories from secondhand textiles and upcycles already existing garments using embroidery or sewing.
