Introduction to Oil Painting (Wednesdays 6-8pm)
WINTER SESSION: JANUARY 6 - FEBRUARY 23
Class Description:
A good-natured boot camp, this crash-course will focus on speed and dynamism in order to develop the students’ comfort level and joy when working with oils. Oil paint is a versatile medium with a reputation for being complicated, expensive and dangerous. In practice, it’s flexible and forgiving. We will work from life or photo reference to make one painting per week. To minimize cost and exposure to chemicals, we will use only a handful of colors and little to no solvents. Lessons will also include easy-to-follow safety practices that will enable students to work at home.
Teacher Info:
I’m an illustrator captivated by the human experience, which I express with humor and sensitivity using oil paint, charcoal, and silkscreen. Community is a major part of my art making, and my colleagues and I host regular open studios, sketch nights and zine fairs. My fine arts education began as a teenager at the Art Students League and has continued well beyond my BFA from Alfred University; I am wrapping up a year-long Fellowship at the Soapbox Print Studio.
