Intro to Hand Sewing (2-4pm)

$144.00

3-Part Workshop

DATES: 6/8, 6/15, 6/22

Class Description:

Before the advent of sewing machines in the 1800’s every article of clothing, every quilt, every stuffed toy and every patched hole were sewn by hand. Hand sewing is an essential skill in art and in life. It is highly meditative, has no need for electricity, can be done anywhere and can be used to create works big and small. In this three part workshop students will learn six basic hand stitches, how to sew a button, how to sew a thread chain, best ironing practices, how to make decorative applique designs with different fabric types, how to patch a hole and how to reinforce mended patches with hand quilting. Students will leave the workshop with three samplers: sewing, applique and hole patching and the skills to tackle larger sewing projects. This class is perfect for people of any experience level. Have you ever wanted to hem your own pants? Personalize a jacket? Patch a hole in your favorite jeans? Or sew a quilt without leaving the comfort of your couch? This class is for you!
