I'm the Love of Your Life -- Dance Workshop

$144.00

3-Part Workshop

DATES: 6/8, 6/15, 6/22

2pm - 4pm

Class Description:

I’m the Love of Your Life is a dance class exploring the momentum that comes with loving and falling in love with yourself. Through this practice, we seek to somatically understand how the phrase “I am the love of your life” can be turned inward and become a tool in interrogating, observing, and unraveling the oppressive systems we’ve learned and continually perpetuate. Through personal reflection, we will individually use this somatic experience to understand both the questions as well as the ease of experiencing this kind of self love.

In this class we will begin with floorwork, explore and define momentum with a loose movement phrase and create solo phrases defining this feeling. While this class will use movement that integrates contemporary dance technique, movements can all be changed and adjusted to your desire. With that in mind, this class is open to all and those who are intrigued and desire this kind of practice.

I'm the Love of Your Life will be supported with reading materials and individual writing practices to accompany our conversations and movement practices with ourselves and each other. Current reading options will include The Care Manifesto by The Care Collective, All About Love by bell hooks, How to Do Nothing by Jenny Odell and more with the intention that we will build an ongoing reading commons which will offer further reflections, investigations, and practices.

Teacher Info:

Mikah Simone Baumrin-Daniels(they/she) is a Jewish-Egyptian-American dance artist that is engaged in the physical understanding of the diasporas the body holds. Their work centers the exploration and confusion of knowing and not knowing: what is inherited in the present body from past lineages? What is forgotten and how is it remembered again? Mikah’s practice intrigues moving in and through the in-between feelings of joy and affliction of these moments of knowing and not knowing. They are currently in a practice of learning about love, what it means to love in this world of ours, and becoming "the love of your life."
