Tuesday Hand & Wheel (Tuesdays 6-9pm)
WINTER SESSION: JANUARY 6 - FEBRUARY 23
Class Description:
Build a foundation in all aspects of pottery, developing skills and techniques for making functional pieces you can use and enjoy. Demos and hands-on instruction in throwing, trimming and glazing will allow students of all levels to develop and refine their work. Students will develop their ability to see, explore ideas and create with curiosity. This is primarily a class for those developing wheel throwing skills but several projects will incorporate hand building techniques. Come and discover the possibilities with clay!
Please note the base price for this class is $300. This includes 3 hours of weekly instruction in our ceramic studio and kiln firings. Registered ceramic students must pay an additional $100 fee to attend weekly open studio hours.
Open studio takes place within the session dates, the weekly hours are below:
Fridays 5-8 PM
Saturdays 1-4 PM
Sundays 1-4 PM
Mondays 3-6 PM
Teacher Info:
Claire Engelhardt is a Philly based ceramic artist whose focus is on handbuilt sculptures and utilitarian ware. She has been working with clay for over ten years, studying at Indiana University Bloomington, and now teaching ceramics classes to both kids and adults. Central to her process is woodfiring, a labor intensive firing process that requires constantly feeding wood to the kiln over the course of days. Each piece is unique, with a surface developed by the fuming of gasses and melting of ashes from the burning wood. Her work integrates sculptural creatures with functional objects to bring beauty to our daily rituals.
