Art of Erasure (Sundays 4-6pm)

$144.00

3-Part Workshop

DATES: 11/10, 11/17, 11/24

Class Description:

We’ve all heard “a poem is never finished.” But what if, instead, there were many finished versions of a poem, all of them in conversation? This workshop explores erasure (or blackout poetry) as a way to dive deeper into your writing and your expectations of what your “best” or “finished” work may look like. Over three workshops, we will perform erasures of older work--as well as work generated during class--to explore how context and experience can influence and unsettle our writing. We'll also dig into the form itself, with examples from established and emerging poets to inspire us.

Teacher Info:

Heather Bowlan is a writer, artist, and community organizer born and raised in NW Philly with deep roots in Germantown. She believes in hope as alchemy and collaboration as the philosopher's stone. Heather is 1/3 of Philadelphia Small Works Gallery, a space for underrepresented artists and performers to share and grow their skills and talent. Her collection of self-erasures and collaborative poems, Highlights & Blackouts, was published by _mixlit press in 2023.
