Dreaming in Color - A Painting Class (Saturdays 2-4pm)
WINTER SESSION: JANUARY 6 - FEBRUARY 23
Class Description:
Each week we we will propose a focus: and emotion or wish, or a prompt for a memory. Using supplied reference materials AND/OR your own, we will spend each week painting, exploring ideas, and reflecting on what it means to dream in the present day. Students will learn a new technique in watercolor or acrylic in a warm-up exercise at the start of class each week before being given free rein to explore that day’s focus. Topics may include desire, wonder, growth, despair, exploration, and belief. Student input with regard to the weekly themes is strongly encouraged.
Teacher Info:
Katrina Simonsen is an emerging artist living in Philadelphia after graduating from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with a certificate in Drawing. Katrina creates artwork in ink, watercolor, charcoal, graphite, oil paint, and more. Right now, she is most interested in creating art that explores storytelling, community, and dreams. In the past, she has focused on nature, grief, and other ideas. Katrina is especially interested in teaching traditional art skills that empower her students to continue creating awesome things for the rest of their lives.
